Welcome to the world Baby Roemer’s.
It’s been a little busy the last week and a half here at the Roemer’s, but we are adjusting quite well. I will start from the beginning;

February 15, 2010 “Monday the big day.”

We arrived at the hospital around 7:45am. We were both very nervous but overwhelmed with excitement to finally meet baby A and baby B. They started by checking my cervix which I was still 4cm dilated and now 90% thinned. I don’t think my body would have made it another couple of days on its own. My doctor came in and broke my water to start things along. She brought in the ultrasound machine just to double check the positions of the baby’s. I informed her that on Friday, just 3 days earlier both babies were head down. Well to our surprise baby B had turned in the breech position over the weekend. When and how this little creature could have done this was mind boggling to me. So we now had the tough decision to try for a vaginal delivery or just do a C-section. Wow I was not expecting this. Much to my surprise my Doctor was willing to go for a vaginal delivery. She told us worse case is baby A would be born normally and baby B would be a c-section. So we decided to go for it.
Things that morning went very smoothly. The Anesthesiologist came in (the man I called God) to give me the greatest drug of all, my epidural. Yes I am a drug seeker when it comes to having babies, give me all you can so I feel no pain. After nine months of carrying twins the last thing I needed was to feel more pain. Things were moving along really well and before we knew it I was 9cm and ready to move over to the OR (c-section room) for delivery. People started moving in and out of the room, Paul was getting dressed into his bunny suit and I was getting super nervous. Because of this I started to shake uncontrollably. The nurses were informing me that it was completely normal and to just try to relax. Holy Moses, relax, how can someone relax when you’re about to deliver twins. When everything was all set-up, doctors in place, the game was on I was 10cm and ready to go. I gave one good push and to our surprise baby A’s head was out. The cord was around her neck twice so the doctor needed me to hold off the pushing for a moment. Then when all was clear I gave another hard push and our precious baby Girl Allison Jennifer Roemer was born at 2:32 pm. Paul and I were both crying, we were blessed with a little girl. She weighed in at 5lb’s 8oz and was 18 ½ inches long. But we knew things weren’t over. While the room was busy with nurses and doctors, my doctor was working on turning baby B into the head down position. I won’t go into details on how they proceeded to do this but I’m surprised my husband hadn’t passed out by now. Finally we were ready to go and with 4 pushes our precious baby Boy Clayton Edward Roemer was born 14 minutes later at 2:46 pm. He weighed in at 6lb’s 5oz and was 19 inches long. What a blessing to have two healthy babies. It was at that moment that I knew our family was finally complete and God has given us the greatest blessing of all, four healthy children.

February 15, 2010 "The Big Day"

It's 5:30am and we are just about ready to walk out the door. NO contractions, no water has broken but it's time. We scheduled the induction for 7:30am at Aurora West Allis Hospital. I'm 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant and hopefully by the end of today this will all be over. So we can finally welcome our 2 little ones into our lives. Thank you all for all the prayers and love. It's been a long 9 months, but a healthy one.

We were finally able to get a 4D picture of baby A last Friday. She or he finally came out from hiding. Oh.,., and on top of all our craziness we accepted an offer on our house this weekend. So yes we are going to be homeless in 2 months. As I've always said we have faith that this was meant to be and everything will be just fine...!

36 ½ weeks
Exciting news but uneventful….!!!
So I went in yesterday for my regular Dr.’s appt in the middle of the wonderful snowstorm. Yes I just fired up that old GMC threw her in 4WD and away I went down to West Allis. Thank God for Grandpa Frank being retired and coming over to watch the boys. If he only knew when I left that morning that he was going to have them all day he may have reconsidered.
I knew come hell or high water (or snowstorm) I was not going to miss this appt. they were checking my cervix for the first time and I needed to know how close we were to delivery. Well the good news is I’m dilated 3cm, the bad news is nothing else is happening at this point. My doctor wanted me to come back that afternoon to get checked again. She just wanted to make sure before they sent me back home that nothing else was happening. Well I spent 3 hours in Labor and Delivery last night hooked up to monitors watching my two peanuts heart rates beating away. I was having mild contractions but nothing consistent. They wanted to keep me over night because of the storm but I insisted on going home. I was stuck in a room with no TV, no radio and no cell phone reception, I just wanted my bed. It took only an hour to get home and it was worth it when I hit my head on my pillow last night.
So all is well and here I sit, waiting and waiting …for anything to happen. I go in on Friday and we are going to talk induction. So hopefully we will know when the big day will be..!

We received wonderful news today that both baby’s are doing great! Our ultrasound lasted a total of an hour and a half. Wow its was really hard to lay on my back for that long. Both baby’s are still head down. We got a wonderful 4D picture of baby B, but baby A is so far down in my pelvis we couldn’t see its beautiful profile. Baby A is weighing in at 4lbs 14oz and Baby B is weighing in at 5lbs 12oz. The perinatologist (fetal Dr.) came in after the ultrasound to verify with us that everything looks good and if I were to go into labor at this point they would do nothing to stop it; music to my ears. Thank you everyone for your wonderful prayers, we are truly blessed we have made it this far!!

This will be short but a little update on everything. I went to the Dr. yesterday for a routine non-stress test and an ultrasound to check fluid around the baby's. The non-stress test went great. Both baby's are moving and the heart rates are good. When I went in for my ultrasound as she was doing her scan she commented that she was just going to check the size of the baby's also. Well, a red flag went up in my mind and I knew she saw something she needed to look closer at. The scan ended up taking 45 mins. and then had to wait for my Dr. to read the results. Baby A is growing 20% less than Baby B. The last time I was in for a growth ultrasound there was only a 5% difference so they were not
concerned. Anywhere between 15 and 20% difference in growth is when they start to intervene. We will go back in this Friday for a 2 hour ultrasound with the fetal specialist to see why this is happening. We just pray that everything is fine and healthy and this is just the way they are. I did produce a 6lb 14oz baby and a 9lb baby with my last two pregnancies so maybe we have another Peyton and Ryan. I will keep you in touch when we know more.

News for the blog…!! I have been going in twice a week for non-stress test on the babies. For those of you who do not know what that is they hook up your belly to a heart monitor to monitor the babies heart rates and moments. Pretty cool stuff, except my two little peanuts are very restless. Either they have the hiccups or they move around so much we lose the heartbeats. My first appointment for this was last week Tuesday. The nurse was unable to find baby A’s heart rate so we ran over to the ultrasound machine to pin point the exact location. We also took note that yes baby B was still breach. Having one of the babies breach will up my chance for a C-section, which I would rather not have. So I went in again yesterday for another non-stress test and another ultrasound to check the babies fluid levels. When I was explaining to the ultrasound tech that baby B the last time was breach she looked at me and said "no its not.” She then turned the monitor so I was able to see both babies head down. Holy cow how and when did that happen.!! I was thrilled. So hopefully with gravity and lack of space they will stay put. My husband on the other hand was not so thrilled (sorry honey). He is hoping for the C-section just so it will be easy access for them to just tie my tubes and he can be free of the harmless snip job he will have to encounter. It’s kind of a joke around here to see who is going to win.
Our wonderful neighbors the Sherman’s threw us a shower this past Saturday. Thanks April for putting that together. When you haven’t had a little one in almost five years it’s amazing how much stuff you forget that you need. It was so nice to hang with the ladies, talk, eat and yes have some wine. (I think that is what turned baby B head down.! Ha) What a great day.
My co-workers in Whitefish Bay also threw me a shower. I have enough diapers now to last us for a very long time. I am so grateful to have such great friends and family!! Thank you everyone.
Oh..One other thing my group of OB Dr’s that I see, I am starting to get a little hormonal with. They are claiming that they won’t induce me until I hit 39 weeks. Okay what the heck (@#%). Telling this to a women pregnant with twins is not going to put her in a very good mood. Both my boys had to be induced and I was well past my due date. I give my cervix no hope on giving way anytime sooner. So I guess I’m in it for the long haul. As long as they are healthy that’s all that matters.
